Getting a Chromebook up and running is simpler than many people expect. Because ChromeOS is lightweight and tightly integrated with your Google account, the setup process is streamlined. Below is how you can walk through it.

Unbox and power on

What to check first

  • Make sure the battery (if removable) is connected or in place.

  • Plug in the charger if the battery is low.

  • Press the power button to start.

Once powered on, your Chromebook will greet you with a welcome screen and prompt you to begin setup.

Language, keyboard, network & terms

Choose language & keyboard layout
You’ll first be asked to pick your preferred language and keyboard layout. This ensures your keys and menus match your expectations.

Enable accessibility (optional)
If you need features such as screen reading, magnification, or other assistive options, you can enable them now before proceeding.

Connect to Wi-Fi
Your Chromebook must connect to a network to continue. Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

Accept Google’s terms of service
You’ll be shown Google’s Terms of Service / Privacy Policy. Read through (or at least skim) and click “Accept” (or similar) to proceed.

Sign in with your Google Account

Enter your credentials
Use your Google account email (or phone) and password to sign in. If you don’t already have a Google account, there’s usually a “Create account” option.

Two-factor authentication (if enabled)
If you have 2-step verification enabled, you may be asked for the verification code from your phone or other device.

Once signed in, your bookmarks, extensions, and other synced settings (if you used Chrome sync before) may appear automatically.

Your new Chromebook is now ready to use.

You can also choose to browse as a guest (without signing in), though this limits many features.
